Leonardo Da Vinci Health Sciences Charter School

Inspiration

Leonardo da Vinci Health Sciences Charter School was inspired by Leonardo da Vinci, a true Renaissance man who interpreted, challenged, and dissected knowledge. A master painter, sculptor, mathematician, scientist, and writer, Leonardo da Vinci’s ingenuity and passion for ideas made him an exemplary role model for our students. He embodied the habits of mind we all want to develop.

Mission

As a nurturing learning community, Leonardo da Vinci Health Sciences Charter School cultivates health-literate students who have the knowledge, critical thinking skills, and attitudes, which empower them to become influential contributors in an ever-changing global society.

History

“It had long since come to my attention that people of accomplishment rarely sat back and let things happen to them.
They went out and happened to things.” ~Leonardo da Vinci

When Clear View Charter Elementary School elected to surrender its charter by not seeking renewal in 2008, the teachers and parents who believed strongly in the power of charter schools forged ahead to create the school of their dreams.

After months of collaboration and community input, the Leonardo da Vinci Health Sciences Charter School petition was drafted and submitted for approval to the Chula Vista Elementary School District. In Fall 2009, LdVCS  proudly opened as a new independent K-6 public charter school!

This “Smarter Charter” now encompasses elements that only a charter school can offer our children – an education built on choice, accountability, innovation and freedom. We are dedicated to creating a quality, student-centered educational program that empowers all students in a safe and supportive environment, to become innovative, compassionate, and intelligent thinkers.
